Healthy Weight Loss with Weight Loss Supplements?

by Christine G. Shannon

When you are thinking about losing weight, you may be thinking that you need to cut back on the candy or that you need to think about reducing the amount of alcohol that you drink, or that you need more vegetables and fruits in your diet, but the truth of the matter is that you probably have no clue what your calorie count is or what you need to eat to be properly healthy. When you are taking a look at diet supplements, you may be considering them as something that will help you lose weight, make you healthier or simply make you less hungry.

A lot of people think that diet nutrition is about consuming fewer calories and that is the key to weight loss. However, it also depends on the type of calories consumed because the metabolism uses some calories as fat and uses fat burning on others for energy. A lot of people try to make up their own diet plan, not knowing anything about diet nutrition, and they do not know which foods to eliminate, limit or increase in their diet plan.

Weight loss supplements, such as protein or fiber supplements, sometimes are chosen as a way to lose weight, and people will often continue eating what they did, but just start adding the supplement, which also has calories to their juice or food, and then they can’t understand why they haven’t lost weight.

The Most Common Medications For Treating Acid Reflux

by Frank Robson

The doctor may describe what type of medication for your acid reflux after considering things like age, pre-existing diseases, side effects and what stage of life you’re at.

Different medications do different things. Some will reduce the acid created, some will improve muscle performance in the stomach area and some will help to clear the stomach. Most medications are available over the counter but you should still check with the doctor before you take anything.

Most people will use antacids which are most common. They contain magnesium, calcium or aluminum salts. They usually work the best in hydroxide or bicarbonate form and are used to neutralize the acid in the stomach. There are side effects from these medications such as constipation (from aluminum) and diarrhea (from magnesium). People with pre-existing diseases such as diabetes need to be careful when taking these over the counter medications containing magnesium salts. A combination of diabetic medication along with episodes of diarrhea can be life threatening.

You can also buy a product called Gaviscon which is a foaming agent. It produces a type of foam that coats the acid reflux and stops it from coming back through the Esopheal Sphincter.

Other medications like Pepcid and Zantac are referred to as H2 blockers. They will lessen the acid production. Cimetidine, Pepcid, nizatidine and Zantac are in this group which can work on as many as 50 percent of suffers. It is always advisable to talk with your doctor to set a doseage for these medications.
