Reversing Tied Tubes - Which Doctor Should You Choose?

Reversing Tied Tubes - Which Doctor Should You Choose?

by Sandra Wilson

There are many reasons why a woman would want to have her tubes untied after having tubal ligation. Whatever those reasons may be, the search for doctors who will perform surgery reversing tied tubes begins.

It is likely you will begin your search for knowledge about who and what is available through using the Internet. Indeed, that is where you found this article, is it not? The Internet can be a useful tool in making your decisions for reversing your tied tubes.

Regardless of whether or not you did begin your search on the Internet, it seems most women want to find a tubal reversal doctor in their own area of the world or country. Since you will probably find a surgeon or two (or more) who say they will perform the operation, I feel compelled to point out that you may not be getting off to a good start by not looking for a surgeon who specializes in tubal ligation reversals.

Whoever you locate in your area, unless you are very lucky, will most likely not be someone who specializes in doing tubal reversals. While they will do the operation for you, it is just one of many other things they do. If you look into a fertility clinic where IVF is available, as it is at most fertility clinics, you will be urged to have IVF instead of the operation in the vast majority of cases. With the operation, there is a one time cost and then you try as much as you want to create a new life. With IVF, on average, you will have to try and pay for an average of 3 cycles.

Even if you do not take that into account, just how much experience will your local doctor have in actually doing the procedure. Once a year? Maybe ten times a year? Wouldn’t you rather have a surgeon who specialized in this field of reproductive endocrinology and performed this surgery every week day? Wouldn’t you rather have one with years of experience?

And wouldn’t you prefer to have a doctor who has a permanent team who works every surgery with him and knows what to expect when doing a tubal anastomosis? These people are also trained by this doctor and know how to handle anything that comes up. Isn’t that better than a doctor who does the surgery once or twice a year who gets a different team every time? Who knows if they have even been involved in such surgery before?

Why not just save yourself a lot of trouble and select a surgeon who specializes in tubal reversal surgery? Do your research on Dr. Gary Berger and Dr. Monteith of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center in North Carolina. You will get the years of experience and knowledge that has made Dr. Berger the world’s leading authority on tubal reversals. In the long run and the short run, you will have made the best choice choosing the CHTRC as the place for reversing tied tubes.
